Strengthening Relationships Series: Imago Therapy with Guest Michelle Bohls, LMFT, EMDR, CGP

In preparation for my upcoming, Online Course: Strengthening Relationships (starting March 16th!), I invited a few colleagues and experts in couples therapy to join me to explore some of the methods that are being effectively used to bring couples closer together.

My second guest in my "Strengthening Relationships Talks Series," Michelle Bohls, LMFT, EMDR, CGP, joined me to talk about Imago Therapy and how it can serve as a critical supplement to traditional couples therapy.

Michelle’s mission in life is to help the world awaken and reclaim the gifts of the intuitive mind. In her Austin-based private practice, Michelle specializes in working with all types of artists, entrepreneurs, healers, and other highly intuitive and creative people in their struggles to overcome emotional blocks, which are often rooted in anxiety, shame, and other overwhelming feelings that affect both the individual’s work and their personal relationships. In addition to individual therapy and couples' work, she runs two long-term process therapy groups.

Michelle maintains a certification in EMDR, membership in the American Group Psychotherapy Association as a Certified Group Psychotherapist (CGP), and membership with Imago Relationships International as Certified Imago Couple’s therapist (CIT) and as a Getting The Love You Want Weekend Workshop presenter.

In this talk, we cover a few topics related to Imago Therapy for Couples including:

  • What is Imago Therapy and why is it such a critical supplement to traditional couples therapy?
  • How is Imago Therapy different from traditional couples therapy and what can it do to help couples use conflict to their advantage, act as a "team," and face their challenges together?
  • Why is Imago Therapy so effective?
  • The role of projections and perspective in our relationship, including:
    • how these can be managed to face the current reality together; and
    • how our individual history impacts these.
  • What are some things that you can do with your partner, right now?
