KETAMINE-ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY

A different way to work with patterns that feel difficult to move.

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy, or KAP, combines psychotherapy with medically supervised ketamine treatment to create opportunities for reflection, emotional processing, and new perspectives.

Susan’s approach is especially interested in what happens beneath recurring emotional and relationship patterns — and how insights from the experience can be integrated into everyday life.

What is Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy?

KAP combines psychotherapy with ketamine prescribed and medically managed by a separate qualified medical provider.

For some people, ketamine may create a temporary shift in perspective or emotional flexibility that makes it possible to explore experiences, reactions, and recurring patterns differently.

Preparation, therapeutic support, and integration are essential parts of Susan’s psychotherapy work. Ketamine is not a substitute for this ongoing process, and no particular outcome can be guaranteed.

When people consider KAP

People exploring KAP may be working through concerns such as:

  • Feeling stuck in recurring emotional patterns
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Anxiety or persistent stress
  • Grief and loss
  • Major life transitions
  • Trauma-related experiences
  • Identity changes
  • Divorce or separation
  • Low self-worth or persistent negative self-talk
  • A desire for deeper self-understanding

Whether KAP is appropriate depends on both psychotherapy assessment and separate medical evaluation. These experiences alone do not establish eligibility.

The experience matters. Integration is where change becomes part of life.

Susan’s work is grounded in the idea that relationships often reveal the emotional patterns that shape our lives.

Through preparation, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, and integration, clients may explore questions such as:

Why do I keep repeating this pattern?

What might be underneath this reaction?

How do I relate to myself when I feel vulnerable, afraid, angry, or disconnected?

What do I want to carry forward — and what am I ready to leave behind?

How can insight become a different way of responding in everyday life?

Insight can open possibilities; practicing different responses in daily life is a continuing part of the work.

ONE-TO-ONE

INDIVIDUAL KETAMINE-ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY

Individual KAP combines preparation, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, and integration in a one-to-one therapeutic process.

Depending on the treatment plan, work may include lower-dose psycholytic sessions that allow more therapeutic interaction as well as more immersive ketamine-assisted experiences.

PARTNERS

COUPLES KETAMINE-ASSISTED THERAPY

Couples KAP is designed for partners who understand their relationship patterns intellectually but continue to get pulled back into familiar emotional cycles.

The work combines couples psychotherapy, preparation, ketamine-assisted experiences when appropriate, and integration. The goal isn’t simply to understand your relationship differently. It’s to begin experiencing each other differently.

SMALL GROUPS

RELATIONSHIP-FOCUSED GROUP THERAPY & KAP

Small virtual relationship-focused psychotherapy groups for couples and individuals working on couple relationships alongside others navigating similar dilemmas, depending on group format and clinical fit.

Monthly Group Therapy & Integration provides ongoing psychotherapy and integration support. Separate extended ketamine-assisted group psychotherapy may also be available for clinically and medically eligible participants.

How KAP works

01

THERAPEUTIC ASSESSMENT

Susan meets with the client to understand current concerns, history, goals, relationship patterns, and whether KAP may be an appropriate psychotherapy option.

02

MEDICAL EVALUATION

A separate qualified medical provider evaluates medical eligibility and, when appropriate, prescribes ketamine. Susan currently collaborates with Journey Clinical for the medical component of KAP.

03

PREPARATION & KETAMINE-ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY

Preparation helps clarify intentions, expectations, therapeutic goals, and the structure of the experience. Susan provides the psychotherapy component during KAP.

04

INTEGRATION

Integration helps clients reflect on what emerged and consider how new awareness can translate into everyday choices, relationships, and patterns.

Two roles. One coordinated process.

Different therapeutic formats

PSYCHOLYTIC KAP

Lower-dose ketamine-assisted psychotherapy may allow clients to remain more verbally engaged with Susan during the session while exploring emotions, memories, reactions, and patterns.

MORE IMMERSIVE KETAMINE-ASSISTED SESSIONS

Some treatment plans may include a more immersive ketamine experience with less ongoing conversation during the medication experience and greater emphasis on preparation and integration.

The medical provider independently determines medication and medical appropriateness.

The session is only part of the work.

A ketamine experience may bring forward emotions, memories, perspectives, or insights.

Integration creates space to understand what emerged and ask:

What feels important?

What does this reveal about a familiar pattern?

What do I want to respond to differently?

How can this insight become something I practice in my relationships and everyday life?

Susan views integration as a central part of KAP rather than an optional afterthought.

Thoughtful relational or therapeutic conversation

Clinical and medical eligibility are separate.

Participation in KAP requires both:

  • Appropriate psychotherapy assessment
  • Separate medical evaluation and eligibility

Susan determines whether KAP is appropriate within the psychotherapy process.

The medical provider independently determines whether ketamine is medically appropriate and manages prescribing and medical requirements.

No psychotherapy recommendation guarantees a prescription or medical eligibility.

Psychotherapy with Susan is available to eligible clients located in California and Massachusetts.

Frequently asked questions

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN KAP AND REGULAR THERAPY?

KAP incorporates prescribed ketamine into a psychotherapy process that also includes assessment, preparation, therapeutic support, and integration. Traditional psychotherapy does not involve ketamine.

WHO PRESCRIBES THE KETAMINE?

Ketamine is prescribed and medically managed by a qualified medical provider. Susan provides the psychotherapy component.

IS KETAMINE INCLUDED IN SUSAN’S THERAPY FEE?

No. Medical evaluation, prescribing, medication, and related medical services are separate from Susan’s psychotherapy fees.

CAN I PARTICIPATE IF I ALREADY HAVE A THERAPIST?

In some cases, yes. Coordination of care can be discussed during the assessment process.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

There is no universal number. Recommendations depend on the person’s goals, history, clinical needs, response to treatment, and medical eligibility.

WHAT IS INTEGRATION?

Integration is the psychotherapy process of reflecting on what emerged during a ketamine-assisted experience and considering how those insights relate to everyday life, relationships, patterns, and choices.

IS KAP APPROPRIATE FOR EVERYONE?

No. Participation requires both psychotherapy assessment and independent medical evaluation.

Preparing for KAP

Preparation and integration materials are discussed as part of the appropriate clinical intake and treatment process.

Curious whether KAP may be worth exploring?

The first step is a conversation about what you are experiencing, what you hope might change, and whether ketamine-assisted psychotherapy may be an appropriate direction to explore.
