INDIVIDUAL KETAMINE-ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY
Sometimes insight needs a different kind of opening.
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy, or KAP, combines psychotherapy with medically managed ketamine treatment to create opportunities for reflection, emotional processing, and new perspectives.
Susan’s approach focuses not only on the experience itself, but on understanding what emerges and integrating that awareness into everyday life, relationships, and choices.

When people consider individual KAP
Some people explore KAP when they feel stuck in emotional, relational, or behavioral patterns that have been difficult to shift through insight alone.
People may be working with concerns such as:
- Anxiety or persistent stress
- Trauma-related experiences
- Grief and loss
- Relationship patterns
- Separation or divorce
- Major life transitions
- Low self-worth
- Persistent negative self-talk
- Identity changes
- Feeling emotionally stuck
- A desire for deeper self-understanding
KAP is not appropriate for everyone.
Whether it is a reasonable option depends on both Susan’s psychotherapy assessment and a separate medical evaluation.
The goal is not just to have an experience.
It is to understand what the experience reveals.
Susan’s work is grounded in the idea that recurring reactions and relationship patterns often make more sense when we understand what is underneath them.
KAP may create an opportunity to encounter familiar emotions, memories, beliefs, or patterns from a different perspective.
The therapeutic work then asks:
What did I notice?
What felt different?
What might this reaction be protecting?
What do I understand now that I could not quite reach before?
What do I want to carry forward?
What am I ready to respond to differently?
Integration helps move those insights from the session into everyday life.
Individual KAP can take different forms.
PSYCHOLYTIC KETAMINE-ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY
Lower-dose ketamine-assisted psychotherapy may allow a client to remain more verbally engaged with Susan during the session.
This format can support exploration of emotions, memories, relationship patterns, protective reactions, and recurring ways of thinking or responding while maintaining more active therapeutic dialogue.
MORE IMMERSIVE KETAMINE-ASSISTED SESSIONS
Some treatment plans may include a more immersive ketamine-assisted experience.
These sessions typically involve less ongoing conversation during the medication experience and greater emphasis on preparation beforehand and integration afterward. The specific medication plan and medical eligibility are determined separately by the prescribing medical provider.
The individual KAP process
INITIAL THERAPEUTIC ASSESSMENT
Susan meets with the client to understand current concerns, history, therapeutic goals, relationship patterns, prior treatment, and whether KAP may be an appropriate psychotherapy option.
MEDICAL EVALUATION
A separate qualified medical provider evaluates medical eligibility. Susan currently collaborates with Journey Clinical for the medical component of KAP. Journey Clinical or the medical provider independently determines medical eligibility and prescribing.
PREPARATION
Preparation sessions help clients understand the process, clarify intentions, discuss expectations, identify relevant emotional or relationship patterns, and prepare for the therapeutic experience.
KETAMINE-ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY
Susan provides the psychotherapy component during the KAP session. The format may be more psycholytic and conversational or more immersive depending on the treatment plan and medical instructions.
INTEGRATION
Integration helps clients reflect on what emerged and consider how new awareness may relate to relationships, emotional patterns, communication, choices, and everyday life.
The session is only one part of the work.
A ketamine-assisted experience may bring forward emotions, memories, perspectives, or insights.
Integration creates space to slow down and understand what those experiences mean.
Together, Susan and the client may explore:
- What felt important
- What emotional patterns became clearer
- What familiar beliefs or reactions showed up
- What changed in the way the client saw themselves or others
- What feels worth practicing differently
- How insight can become a more intentional response in daily life
Susan views integration as a central part of KAP rather than an optional follow-up.
Psychotherapy and medical care have different roles.

Within that KAP treatment plan, clients may continue working with Susan around:
- Relationship patterns
- Emotional regulation
- Communication
- Grief
- Separation or divorce
- Personal growth
- Identity
- Integration
- Recurring emotional or behavioral patterns
Some clients may also continue working with an existing therapist, when clinically appropriate and with thoughtful coordination of care.
Fees & session structure
Individual KAP session formats, lengths, and psychotherapy fees are discussed during inquiry and before beginning treatment.
INDIVIDUAL KAP PSYCHOTHERAPY
Expected session lengths and psychotherapy fees are discussed before beginning treatment.
SEPARATE MEDICAL SERVICES
Medical evaluation, ketamine prescribing, medication, medical follow-up, and related medical services are separate from Susan’s psychotherapy fees.
Clinical and medical eligibility are separate.
Participation in KAP requires both:
- Appropriate psychotherapy assessment
- Separate medical evaluation and eligibility
Susan determines whether KAP is appropriate within the psychotherapy process.
The medical provider independently determines whether ketamine is medically appropriate and manages prescribing and medical requirements.
No psychotherapy recommendation guarantees medical eligibility or a ketamine prescription.
Psychotherapy with Susan is available to eligible clients located in California and Massachusetts.
Frequently asked questions
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN KAP AND REGULAR THERAPY?
KAP incorporates prescribed ketamine into a psychotherapy process that also includes assessment, preparation, therapeutic support, and integration. Traditional psychotherapy does not involve ketamine.
WHO PRESCRIBES THE KETAMINE?
Ketamine is prescribed and medically managed by a qualified medical provider. Susan provides the psychotherapy component.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PSYCHOLYTIC AND MORE IMMERSIVE KAP?
Psycholytic KAP generally involves a lower-dose experience that may allow more active therapeutic conversation during the session. A more immersive ketamine-assisted session generally involves less ongoing dialogue during the medication experience and more emphasis on preparation and integration. Medication decisions are made by the prescribing medical provider.
CAN I PARTICIPATE IF I ALREADY HAVE A THERAPIST?
In some cases, yes. Coordination of care can be discussed during the assessment process.
HOW MANY KAP SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
There is no universal number. Recommendations depend on the client’s goals, history, clinical needs, response to treatment, and medical eligibility.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING INTEGRATION?
Integration is the psychotherapy process of reflecting on what emerged during a ketamine-assisted experience and considering how those insights relate to relationships, emotional patterns, choices, and everyday life.
IS KETAMINE INCLUDED IN SUSAN’S FEE?
No. Medical evaluation, prescribing, medication, and related medical services are separate from Susan’s psychotherapy fees.
IS KAP APPROPRIATE FOR EVERYONE?
No. Participation requires both psychotherapy assessment and independent medical evaluation.
