THE COMPOSURE LAB™

Who do you become when things get emotionally charged?

Recognize your reaction.
Understand what it protects.
Choose what happens next.

The Composure Lab brings Susan Regan’s understanding of human behavior, emotional reactions, and relationship patterns beyond the therapy room and into everyday life.

It helps people understand what happens when they become emotionally activated — and what becomes possible when they have more awareness of the reaction before it determines what happens next.

A practical way to understand what happens under pressure.

RECOGNIZE

Notice when you are becoming emotionally activated — in your body, thoughts, communication, and behavior.

UNDERSTAND

Ask what the reaction may be protecting: fear, rejection, loss of control, feeling unseen, responsibility, uncertainty, or vulnerability. These are questions, not diagnoses.

CHOOSE

Create enough room to respond with greater intention rather than automatically repeating a familiar reaction.

The goal is not to eliminate emotional reactions.
It is to become more aware of them — so they have less power to determine what happens next.

Awareness creates room for a different response.

The Composure Lab helps people notice activation, recognize the needs or protective responses underneath it, regulate before responding, communicate with greater steadiness, and choose actions that reflect who they want to be.

The aim is not to suppress emotion. It is to understand the reaction and make room for a more intentional response.

The context changes. The human patterns often don’t.

COMMUNITIES

We may behave differently at home, at work, or in public. Yet defensiveness, withdrawal, anger, over-functioning, shutting down, and trying harder to be understood may emerge from familiar patterns.

Understanding ourselves shouldn’t happen only in therapy.

Some of our most revealing moments happen in everyday life: when someone criticizes us, a partner pulls away, we feel responsible for fixing everything, we become defensive, shut down, or feel misunderstood.

The Composure Lab creates space to notice those moments, understand what may be underneath, and practice responding with more awareness.

Who Do You Become Under Pressure?

The Hidden Patterns That Shape Conflict, Communication and Leadership

This keynote and interactive workshop explore what happens when people become emotionally activated and how greater awareness creates more space between reaction and response.

Emotional leadership starts with what happens inside us.

For organizational and leadership audiences, this work explores what happens when we feel challenged, criticized, responsible, uncertain, or under pressure.

Awareness can help people communicate and lead with greater steadiness and intention, especially when difficult moments arise.

Workshop and conversation concepts

THE ART OF REPAIR

What happens after conflict matters. Explore repair, trust, communication after charged moments, and reconnection without pretending nothing happened.

NAVIGATING DIFFERENCE

Explore how differences in personality, expectations, values, communication, and emotional style may become friction — and what helps people relate across them.

THE COMPOSURE LAB FOR LEADERS

One application of the larger framework, focused on activation, self-awareness, communication under pressure, steadiness, and leadership presence.

Small interactive public workshop discussion

Ways The Composure Lab can show up.

Possible formats include community conversations, interactive workshops, organizational programs, leadership learning, facilitated discussions, speaking engagements, and other educational experiences.

Not every format is currently scheduled or available as a packaged program.

Community education, not psychotherapy.

The Composure Lab is educational. It brings psychological and relational insight into community, organizational, and everyday settings, but it is not psychotherapy and does not replace individualized professional care.
