FOR CLINICIANS
Ketamine-Assisted Experiential Learning for Clinicians
Understand the process from the inside.
For clinicians curious about ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, theory is only one part of understanding the work.
This small-group experiential offers licensed clinicians an opportunity to move through the KAP process from the participant perspective — including preparation, medical coordination, a psycholytic ketamine-assisted psychotherapy experience, and integration.
The intention is not simply to learn about a model. It is to better understand the vulnerability, pacing, relational safety, and practical structure clients may encounter when participating in this work.
EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING
Some things are difficult to understand only from the clinician’s chair.
Clinicians can learn protocols, theory, ethics, and clinical frameworks in training. Direct experience offers something different.
Participating in the process can deepen awareness of what it may feel like to prepare for a ketamine-assisted session, enter an altered state while remaining in a therapeutic relationship, encounter uncertainty or emotion, and return to the work of integration afterward.
That perspective can help clinicians think more carefully about pacing, preparation, consent, therapeutic presence, and the practical questions clients often bring to KAP.
THE EXPERIENCE
Experiential learning within a therapeutic process
This offering is designed as a structured clinical experiential for licensed mental health professionals and other eligible clinicians interested in understanding ketamine-assisted psychotherapy more deeply.
Participants move through the process as participants — not simply as observers. The experience may include:
- Clinical screening, assessment, preparation, and intention-setting
- Coordination with a qualified medical provider
- Separate medical eligibility evaluation and prescribing when appropriate
- A psycholytic ketamine-assisted group psychotherapy experience
- Integration and reflection
- Discussion of the clinical infrastructure surrounding KAP
- Exposure to resources, referral pathways, and collaborative-care considerations
A CLEAR DISTINCTION
This is experiential learning — not a certification program.
Participation in this experiential does not by itself qualify or certify a clinician to provide ketamine-assisted psychotherapy.
Clinicians intending to incorporate KAP into their own practice remain responsible for appropriate education, training, consultation, medical collaboration, informed-consent procedures, documentation systems, and the requirements relevant to their license, jurisdiction, and clinical setting.
THE THERAPEUTIC APPROACH
A more relational form of ketamine-assisted work
Susan’s approach emphasizes psycholytic ketamine-assisted psychotherapy.
In this form of work, ketamine is used within an ongoing psychotherapeutic process in a way that can allow the participant to remain engaged with the therapist, internal experience, and emerging material.
The emphasis is not on chasing an extraordinary experience. The focus is on what becomes available for reflection, emotional exploration, relationship, and integration when familiar patterns loosen.
THE ARC OF THE EXPERIENCE
Preparation. Experience. Integration.
01 · Preparation
Clinical screening, orientation, intention-setting, and coordination with the medical provider establish expectations, safety, and therapeutic goals.
02 · Experience
Eligible participants may take part in a facilitated psycholytic ketamine-assisted group psychotherapy experience. Susan provides psychotherapy; the qualified medical provider manages medical eligibility, prescribing, medication, and monitoring.
03 · Integration
Space to reflect on what emerged and consider its personal and professional meaning. The goal is to deepen awareness of the process from the inside, not turn it into a technique.
REFLECTION
A different kind of clinical understanding
Experiential learning can help clinicians become more thoughtful about questions that are difficult to answer through theory alone.
- What does preparation feel like from the participant side?
- How does vulnerability change in an altered state?
- What supports safety and therapeutic connection?
- How does pacing affect the experience?
- What does integration ask of a participant?
- What emotional and practical questions arise before and after KAP?
- How do therapist and medical-provider roles remain distinct?
- What does collaborative care look like from the participant perspective?
ELIGIBILITY
Who may find this experiential useful
This offering may be relevant for licensed mental health professionals and other eligible clinicians who:
- Are curious about ketamine-assisted psychotherapy or psychedelic-informed clinical work
- Want to understand the participant experience more deeply
- Learn well through direct experience
- Value thoughtful, ethical, relationally grounded clinical work
- Are considering further KAP education or training
- Already work with KAP and want a different perspective on the process
Participation is subject to Susan’s clinical assessment, applicable licensure requirements, and separate medical eligibility. Inquiry does not guarantee participation.
COLLABORATIVE CARE
Psychotherapy and medical care have distinct roles
Susan Regan, LMFT
Clinical assessment within her scope; preparation and intention-setting; psychotherapy during the experiential process; integration and reflection; relational and clinical framing.
Qualified medical provider / Journey Clinical
Medical evaluation; determination of medical eligibility; ketamine prescribing when appropriate; medication management; medical monitoring and follow-up. Journey Clinical is Susan’s current collaborative medical partner; medical decisions remain with the qualified medical provider.
Ketamine-related medical assessment, prescribing, medication management, and medical monitoring are provided separately by a qualified medical provider.
FORMAT & COMMITMENT
Small-group experiential format
The experiential is designed for a small group of clinicians so there is room for preparation, participation, reflection, and integration.
Group size
Generally limited to approximately six clinicians.
Schedule and investment
Current dates, format, and fees are discussed during the clinician inquiry process.
Participation
Because this is an experiential clinical process rather than a drop-in workshop, preparation and continuity are important. Susan will discuss the appropriate level of participation with interested clinicians.
QUESTIONS
Frequently asked questions
Do I need prior experience with ketamine-assisted psychotherapy?
No. The experiential may be appropriate for clinicians who are new to KAP as well as those who already have professional exposure and want to understand the process from the participant perspective.
Is this a KAP certification or formal training program?
No. This is experiential learning within a therapeutic process. It does not independently certify or qualify a clinician to provide ketamine-assisted psychotherapy.
Is ketamine included in Susan’s fee?
No. Medical evaluation, prescribing, medication costs, and related medical services are handled separately through the medical provider.
Does participation guarantee that I can receive ketamine?
No. Ketamine eligibility is determined separately by the qualified medical provider after medical evaluation.
Do I need to be licensed?
The offering is intended primarily for licensed mental health professionals and other qualified clinicians. Susan will determine whether the experiential is appropriate during inquiry and screening.
Will I be participating as a clinician or as a client?
The purpose is to experience the process from the participant side rather than to observe or practice as a treating clinician during the experiential.
Can this replace other KAP training?
No. Clinicians intending to offer KAP should pursue appropriate professional education, training, consultation, and medical collaboration relevant to their scope and jurisdiction.
